My two favorite pastry shops were short walks from our hotel. A chef the Guardian described as "The King of Modern Pâtisserie" and who Vogue described as "the Picasso of Pastry". When I first arrive in Paris, my first excursion (after heading over to Les Deux-Magots for a croque-monsieur) is a hop and a skip along rue Bonaparte to Pierre Herme's popular and praised patisserie. This is the Left Bank, Rue Bonaparte outpost of Pierre Hermé, French Pâtisserie superstar. In between all of these activities, many of us found time to sample sweet treats at Left Bank patisseries. The Guardian has rated Sadaharu Aoki as one of the top pâtisseries in Paris, alongside big names like Pierre Hermé, Jean-Paul Hévin and La Pâtisserie des Rêves.
